In this thesis, I examined the form of modern being of allegory style through Seo Jung-In’ novels. Korean modern literature has been inter- preted with the aesthetic consciousness of romantic or realistic. which, in result, has underestimated the allegoric worlds as an product of the abstract idea. However, in the fascist reality by the military dictatorship and in the capitalistic modernization of the 1960s~1970s, allegory in novels discovers and criticize the other sides of modern system which were hidden in fragmentary realities. As it were, it is held that allegory novels are to be by not premising absolute truth but denying and criticizing falsity of realities.
In particular, Seo’ allegory novels show consistent criticism toward- brutality of development-dictatorship system which has been represented with the words of ‘development’, ‘hope’, and ‘achievement’. In addition, his works express cynical view of the mass of people that were fasci- nated with ‘myth’ of development logic and were imprisoned at the repressive system by themselves. There are not characters as megaphone speaking for author’s consciousness, and the ideal statements appear in dialogues of characters in his allegory novels. This dialogic style un- folds the world of equivocalness by being possible to make diverse meanings ‘give and take’ each other in a work, unlike another allegory novels which are subject to the only one logos of singular and overwhelming.
