The MBTI was administered to 572 juvenile delinquents on probation and 617 high school boys in order to investigate the relationship between juvenile delinquency and Perceiving preferences as measured by the MBTI. In relation to psychological types, the comparison was made between adolescent in general and juvenile delinquents (AG vs JD), and high- and low-scored delinquents in their rates of misbehaviors (HD v.s LD). The χ 2-test result showed that for 4 preference index (EI, SN, TF, JP), JD seemed to have higher tendency in being Extroverted, Sensing and Thinking than AG, and HD seemed to be more Extroverted, Thinking and Perceiving than LD. AG was higher than JD in their Perceiving preferences, which was contrary to what had been expected, but HD was higher than LG in being Perceiving. Accordingly we can conclude that JD with high Perceiving preference tend to conduct more delinquent behaviors, even though JDs do not necessarily have high continuous scores in comparison with AG. This result may empirically support the theoretical position that the behavioral characteristics of the Perceiving types show the tendency to juvenile crimes to a certain extent. JD and HD tend to be high in Extrovert and Thinking preference, and HD group tends to have more Perceiving types than LD group. As the Perceiving preference is more or less related to juvenile delinquency, it was suggested that special care shoed be given to the adolescents with Perceiving type, especially those with Extrovert, Thinking preferences.
