In Asian and Western art design, the blank spaces deliberately used by the designer are called `white space`, and are used in accordance with their purposes. In the current environment of visual communication, the effective transmission of messages is recognized as an essential attribute that designers should consider. Accordingly, the use of `white space` in the designer`s work space is becoming important. Many designers are aware of the importance of the effects of white space within their work and are actively using white spaces for effective delivery of visual messages. However, the use of white space is limited to `empty space` and `inside work area` which limits the possibility of expression that a designer can utilize.
Therefore, the researcher of this study defined `shaping-becoming white space process` as the process of defining and separating the relation between shape and white space in the process of forming the white space, and revealed that there is `shaping-becoming white space process` existed in visual communication environments based on visual psychological processes such as `preattentive processing` and `gestalt psychology` of `feature integration theory`. In addition, this paper explained that the white space that the designer can use could be extended to the outside of the `working area` based on the `shaping-becoming white space process` that the researcher defined and identified in the various types of `shaping-becoming white space process` in a visual communication environment through case analysis.
