박상륭의 「소설법」에 내포된 선(禪)적 사유와 불교 스토리텔링 = Seon (禪) Thoughts in Park Sang-ryung (朴常隆, 1940-)’s Soseolbeob (小說法) and Buddhist Storytelling

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to establish the direction and aims of the Buddhist storytelling. I used the work of writer Park Sang-ryung (朴常隆, 1940-)’s Soseolbeob (小說法, written in novelistic style) for this research. He is a South Korean novelist and short story writer. He has a reputation for being a multifaceted writer not only because of his exhaustive range of symbolism and allusion, but also because of his complex, experimental style.
In modern society, there has been a mounting interest in cultural content. And the foundation of all cultural content is a ‘story.’ Buddhism contains the experience and contents strewn with abundant storytelling. In addition, Buddhism accounts for a large proportion in Korean culture overall. However, the discussion has not been concerned with the relationship to the Buddhist storytelling, which is the foundation of cultural contents and can be the core.
Park Sang-ryung’s idea is that a novel, where without being bound, must be avant-garde. Location should not be a specific place; the specific place should be within the novel itself. And within this place, there is a Bodhisattva, and Śūnyatā. In this paper Seon’s (禪) thoughts on this matter are revealed directly to the reader.
