「Cheongun Yeonui」, written by Jeong Taejae, a writer in times of King Incho in Chosun Dynasty is a literary work which personified the humans mind as `Cheongun` and illustrated the circumstances of its losing composure and a process of the recovery to its true color. Similarly, works which personified the mind as Cheongun started from 「Cheongun story」by Kim Woo-Ong and continued till early modern times via their peak time in 16th and 17th century where they were developed to form a specific group. 「Cheongun Yeonui」, out of them, a novel composed with Janghwoe style is an outstanding work on view of description and composition, and was published in Chinese Hyunto style in 1917 as a textbook of Jeongsim Gongbu (a study to keep a mind) for Confucian students. The starting point of this paper is originated from a question that how the establishment and existence of Cheongun style works had been developed. Previous studies tried to find an answer from a tradition of Gajeon or development of Shimhak or in a level of novel description. The paper intends to approach a basis of establishment of Cheongun style works in more comprehensive aspects while agrees with these previous studies. It was necessary for Chosun Dynasty whose spiritual basis was Neo-Confucianism to intend an expansion of Neo-Confucianism according to understanding and internalization of Confucianism whereas excluding heresies such as Buddhism or Taoism. Further, a tradition of plays (a kind of board game) such as 「Jongjeongdo」and 「Jakseongdo」and Doseol (Diagram and explanation of philosophical theory) for young students enabled an establishment of 「Cheongun Story」. In addition, it could be developed to 「Cheongun Yeonui」which had more descriptive completeness because Cheongun style works accepted Chinese historical novels while incapacitating criticism on fiction with their description methods. A set of these phenomena should be examined in consideration of a process of social acceptance according to philosophical basis of New-Confucianism during Chosun Dynasty and a development of description style, and it is expected that this paper shall be able to understand an establishment and existence aspect of Cheongun style works through total structure.
