에쓰노그래피와 문화연구방법론 = Ethnography and Cultural Methodology

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The cultural methodology has been given substantial attention with culture becoming one of the major research objects in the field of social sciences. The so-called cultural turn retains dual implications. On the one hand, the cultural turn implies the increased exposure culture, as a research domain and an object, receives from scholars. Simultaneously, the cultural turn implies a noteworthy research methodology newly established. In compliance with such trend, it is necessary to review ethnography, a typical qualitative method representing the cultural studies. This study endeavors to explore the potentialities and limitations of ethnography as a cultural methodology in the current situation where active controversies over the cultural turn are present. In this study, ethnography is understood as an intellectual project encompassing (1) the selection of the research object, (2) research method, and (3) description and writing, rather than as a mere set of methods. Further, the relationship between the subject of representation and the object of representation is re-translated in the context of the task of the translator, and the cultural turn is shown to be closely related with the turn to dialog and translation in this study.
