The purpose of this study lies in providing basic materials necessary for more efficient dancing education by theoretically verifying that dancing education could contribute to the development of students' character, enhance their sense of fulfillment and self-confidence, and guide their life to an optimistic and positive style.
This writer did questionnaire research targeting junior and high school students living in Daegu City as of 2001 to collect research materials necessary for this study. Valid ones among questionnaires recollected from 189 students (94.5%) numbered 182 (96.3%), except ones that were incomplete in responding or some were omitted in filling out. Statistical calculation was performed through frequency analysis and One-Way ANOVA, using SPSS statistical program.
This study is based on the following hypotheses:
1. Dance-learning will have an effect on forming youths' self-conception.
2. There will be an individual difference in the development of self-conception among young people, depending on the types of dancing in which they participate.
Statistical results centering on the above hypotheses are as follows:
1. Youths' showed statistically a significant difference in the degree of their self-conception, as dance-learning programs were provided. Young people who participated or are currently participating in dance-learning showed a higher degree of self-conception than the students of the other group did.
2. Dancing-learners' didn't show statically a significant difference in the degree of self-conception in accordance with the types of dance that they learned.
The results of the study above tells us that youths' dance-learning is very effective guiding their self-conception into a right and positive direction; in particular, dancing itself rather than the types of dance has an effect on the development of youths' self-conception; and dancing education will serve to purify problems occurred due to a higher industrialization.
Thus not just a particular type of dance but an efficient teaching of dances, which induces a creative expression of dancing and an active participation, will be needed.
