임진왜란기 이원익과 이순신의 인연과 우의 = Relationship and Friendship between Yi Won-ik and Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 임진왜란기 이원익과 이순신의 인연과 우의를 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 이원익의 생애와 이순신과의 인연, 어전회 의·상소를 통한 이원익의 이순신 옹호, 이순신 백의종군기 이원익의 충언과 제의를 살펴본 후 결론을 도출해 본 것이다. 이원익은 유성룡 못지않게 임진왜란 기간을 통해 이순신을 지지·옹호한 사람이었다.
이순신은 해전사적으로 승전기록에 있어서 타의 추종을 불허함은 물론 문무덕을 겸전한 숭고한 인격의 소유자로서 조국에 대한 지극한 충성심과 탁월한 통솔력·리더십을 발휘한 점에서 우리역사상 유례를 찾아보기 어려운 인물이었다. 이순신은 일생동안 구국정신으로 국가에 몸과 마음을 바친 위대한 군인이자 성웅이었다. 이원익은 그의 뛰어난 실무적 경륜과 위기관리능력, 강직한 원칙과 포용성을 겸전한 리더십으로 임진왜란 등 국난극복에 크게 기여한 인물이었다. 자신의 안위보다는 나라사랑을 항상 먼저 생각하는 인물이었다. 이원익은 그러한 인물이었기에 이순신을 알아보았고 이순신이 모함을 받아 어려움에 처했을 때 적극 옹호할 수 있었다. 이순신과 이원익의 돈독한 신뢰와 우의와 탁월한 능력들이 시너지 효과를 발휘하여 특히 정유재란이후 해전에서의 승리로 전란을 마무리하는데 크게 기여했다고 볼 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this paper is to analyse the relationship and friendship between Yi Won-ik and Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War. To this end the paper is composed of 5 chapters titled introduction; Yi Won-ik s life and his relationship with Yi Sun-sin; Yi Won-ik s advocacy argument for Yi Sun-sin at a conference in the Royal presence and by appeal to the King Seonjo; Yi Won-ik s good advise and proposal during the Baekuijongkun(serving in a war as a commoner without rank) period; and conclusion. Yi Won-ik was a man who supported and defended Yi Sun-sin as well as Yoo Seong-ryong during the Imjin War. Yi Sun-sin was an outstanding military expert with outstanding ability to record successive victories during Imjin-Jeongyu War(Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and 1597). Yi sun-sin was a great soldier and holy hero who devoted his body and mind to the country in the spirit of patriotism until the last moment. Yi Won-ik is a man who greatly contributed to overcoming a national disaster, including the Imjin War, with his excellent work experience, ability to manage crises, strict principles, and good leadership. He always put country love before wealth and honor. Lee Won-ik recognized Yi Sun-sin because he was such a figure and was able to defend him wholeheartedly when he was framed into trouble. Yi Sun-sin also expressed a deep appreciation and respect for Yi Won-ik s support and advocacy. The strong trust, friendship and excellent abilities of Yi Won-ik and Yi Sun-sin could have a synergy effect, contributing significantly to the conclusion of the war, especially with victory in the naval battle after the Jeongyu War(Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1597).
