This study explored how young children`s acceptance attitude toward peers with disabilities can change through play with learning material about disabilities in activity areas. The participants of the study were 50 children from two general kindergarten classes divided into an experimental group and a control group. The young children in the experimental group were provided with 21 kinds of learning material about disabilities in four activity areas in free play periods for 7 weeks. Changes in their attitude toward peers with disabilities were measured by a questionnaire developed by Lee(2000). Changes were identified by analyzing the young children`s explanation about the products made while working with the learning material provided. The children in the experimental group tended to show greater change in attitudes of acceptance toward peers with disabilities than did the children in the control group who did not work with the disability materials. An analysis of the experimental group`s descriptions of their products revealed an empathy with their peers who had disabilities and a strong will to interact with them in an assisting manner. Therefore this study came to the conclusion that play activities with learning materials about disabilities may promote the development of young children`s accepting attitudes toward peers with disabilities.
