'이성의 간지'개념에 대한 현대적 재조명_preprint

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 근대의 사회·역사 철학에 독특한 개념인 ‘이성의 간지’ 개념에 대한 현대적 고찰이다. 근대 시민사회의 등장은 개개인의 목적활동으로부터 일정하게 독립된 사회적 실재와 그 운동에 대한 철학적 반성, 그리고 이를 적절히 담아낼 새로운 사회과학적 탐구 전략의 필요성을 제기하였다. 본고는 헤겔의 ‘이성의 간지’ 개념을 전후한 라이프니츠의 ‘예정 조화’, 칸트의 ‘자연의 의도’, 아담 스미스의 ‘보이지 않는 손’, 퍼거슨의 ‘행위의 의도하지 않은 결과’, 마르크스의 ‘소외’, ‘등뒤에서 작동하는 자본의 논리’ 등의 개념을 바로 이런 시대적 요구에 부응한 유사 개념으로 본다. 이 개념들은 각 철학자의 사상 속에 구체화될 때 서로간에 다른 모습으로 나타났지만 분명한 공통의 문제의식을 담고 있었다. 그것은 다름 아닌 “행위의 의도하지 않은 결과”(unintended consequences of human actions)를 사회과학과 철학의 주요 탐구대상으로 설정하고 이를 해명하고자 한 문제의식이다. 본고의 기본 의도는 비록 근대의 사회․역사 철학이 많은 부분에 있어 이론적, 현실적 적합성을 상실하였다 할 지라도 바로 이 문제의식만큼은 여전히 중요한 의미를 지닌다는 점을 보여주는 데 있다. 아울러 이 개념에 함축된 ‘도덕적 정열’(moral passion) 또한 현대적 유의미성을 지니고 있음을 보여주고자 한다.

This paper investigates a conception of 'Cunning of the Reason' from today's point of view. In modern social philosophies, there were a number of similar conceptions ; 'invisible hand'(A. Smith), 'Absicht der Natur'(I. Kant), 'List der Vernunft'(G. W. F. Hegel), ‘Entfremdung'(Marx) and so on. These concepts were meaningful frameworks to theorize the new characteristics of social life in modern bourgeois society.
These concepts are closely connected to the today's conception in social sciences, 'the unintended consequences of human action', which is regarded as one of the most important targets of social sciences and as main framework in social research as well.
The main interests of this article are 1) to trace the history of these family-resemblant concepts, 2) to evaluate their position in contemporary social sciences, and finally 3) to reconsider the meaning of the conceptions from contemporary view-point. In conclusion, this paper tries to show that the concepts could be a very useful and enlightening category to investigate contemporary social facts, e.g. the world-market, mass culture, various kinds of conflicts between races, gender, religions, ideologies and so on.
