This is an exploratory study on problem drinking of office workers. This study focused on the actual condition of problem drinking, alcoholism, drinking and driving, and the subsequent problems of drinking among office workers in Seoul. Based on the results, it provided preventive programs and services. This study first reviewed previous literature on problem drinking, described the survey as a research method, and presented the survey results. The survey was administered to 1,103 office workers in Seoul. Using NAST and CAGE, the study found that one or two workers were alcoholics. Ages and work experiences were positively related to alcoholism. Males were 3 to 5 times higher than females to be an alcoholic. Singles were higher than married workers to be an alcoholic. Marketing workers were higher than the workers in other areas to be an alcoholic. About 35% of the respondents said they had an experience of drinking and driving. One out of ten females responded that they had an experience of drinking and driving. Although the problem drinking among office workers seemed to be very serious, no preventive programs and services had been provided in most work places. The study suggested that employers need to take some measures in terms of productivity and social costs. In addition, it suggested practical programs and services which may prevent drinking and driving and problem drinking.
