다문화 사회에서 ‘차이’를 ‘차별’화하는 폭력성의 극복을 위한 기독교 평화교육의 한 방향 = A Direction of The Christian Peace Education for Overcoming the Violence of Discrimination in the Multi-Cultural Society

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper, I have proposed a direction for the education from the Christian perspective of the peace and justice resisting the discrimination and oppression toward the minor groups in Korean multi-cultural society. This article includes the generating process of the various violences of racism, the 8 contents of peace education led by the outstanding scholars, Virginia Cawagas and Toe Swee-Hin, and the challenges from the Frankfurt Model to give an insight the Korean society to form the Christian peace education overcoming the violence of discrimination and oppression. Through the Christian peace education we will practice the multi-culturalism that celebrates the differences, respects each other, and empowers the people in the Korean society.
The multi-cultural change of Korean society has led Korean people to have a various expectations, and worries at the same time. The expectation means that this social change will bring a richness of multi racial, cultural, and religious environment to Korea. The worry comes from the negative perspective on the multi-cultural society in which conflicts and struggles among many differences of the races, cultures, and religions cannot be controlled. In order to expand the positive side of changes, we need to try to make a new environment for the co-existential society among many different groups through the appropriate Christian peace education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국사회의 다문화적 변화는 사람들의 마음에 다양한 기대와 우려, 관심을 동시에 부여하였다. 다인종, 다종교, 다문화의 유입이 우리 사회를 위해 긍정적인 작용을 할 것이라는 기대와, 반면에 서로 다른 가치의 대립과 충돌로 인한 사회 갈등이 표면화 될 것이라는 우려가 동시에 존재하고 있다. 긍정적 측면은 발전시켜가고 부정적 측면은 교육과 의식의 변화를 통해 공존의 사회적 환경을 만들어가야 할 것이다. 이에 필자는 다른 인종과 문화 간에 발생 가능한 차별과 억압의 해소를 평화와 정의적 관점에서 이해하는 기독교평화교육의 과제로 인식하고 그 극복 방안을 제시하여 보았다.
다문화 사회에서 ‘차이’를 ‘차별’화하는 폭력성의 극복을 위한 기독교 평화교육의 방향을 모색하고자 하는 이 글에서 필자는 다문화 사회에서 차이를 차별화하는 폭력의 생성과정을 밝히고, 이를 극복할 기독교 평화교육의 방향을 가늠하기 위해 평화연구자이며 활동가인 버지니아 카와가스(Virginia Cawagas)와 토 스위 힌(Toe Swee-Hin)이 제시하고 있는 평화교육의 영역을 소개하였다. 평화교육이 단순히 전쟁을 반대하는 차원이 아니라 부정의의 극복, 환경, 기아, 인권, 종교간 문화 간의 대화, 내면의 성숙과 영성의 양육 등 다양한 차원의 내용을 포함하여야 한다는 것은 우리 사회를 위한 중요한 도전(challenge)이 될 것이다. 또한 다문화 사회의 공존을 위해서 이를 실천하고 있는 독일의 프랑크푸르트(Frankfurt)를 모델로 삼아 성찰을 시도하였다. 프랑크푸르트는 도시 전체 인구의 40%이상이 175개국의 외국으로부터 이주해 온 이주민으로 구성되어 있고 150개의 종교공동체와 150개의 인종문화 공동체가 한 사회에 존재하며 상호 존중과 공존의 사회를 지향하기 위한 노력을 하고 있는 대표적 다문화 도시라 할 수 있기 때문이다. 프랑크푸르트 사회의 정치, 교육, 종교교육 영역의 전문가들의 견해를 바탕으로 우리 사회에 도움이 될 측면을 살펴보고자 하였다. 차이를 차별화하는 폭력성의 극복을 위한 기독교 평화교육의 방향을 모색함으로써, 다인종, 다문화, 다종교 사회 안에서 상호 용납 적이며 상호 공존적 관계를 형성하고 이를 위한 과정에 헌신하는 일이 기독교의 새로운 영성이 된다는 것을 인식하게 되는 계기를 마련하고자 한다.
