After cultural interchange between Oriental and Occidental continent had started, two different continents influenced each other in many fields by heterogeneous culture. Those cultural contacts made mutually spirited and changed. The cultural influences between two different continents created new terminology called 'Orientalism'. The Orientalism has subdivided into more detailed branches. One of the subdivision of Orientalism is 'Chinoiserie', European art style such as architecture, technical art, painting, clothing and textiles with Chinese taste. The Chinoiserie appeared occasionally from ancient times to Middle Age through Renaissance, it reached the climax on beginning of eighteen centuries, and it was shrouded in mystery with combination of Oriental exotic mood and archtectural structure in Rococo style.
Many literatures have been studied the characteristics of the architecture sculpture, painting and technical art in the Rococo style. However, the research for the distinct characteristics, of the artistic harmony on the Chinoiserie in Rococo style have not done in depth.
This research is focused on the one of the Orientalism in the European art style, Chinese style 'Chinoiserie'. The research is also investigated major trading means, The East Indies, at that time and historical background and French spirit in that period.
The chapter three discussed on the influences for Rococo architecture, furniture, ceramics, clothing and textiles. The chapter four mentioned French textiles influenced by Chinoiserie. Specially, the textiles are closely related to human being and can be expressed for the emotion and the sense of beauty. The textiles can be a medium of expression of human beings' artistic style. Therefore, this research emphasized on French ornament in the interior and the main subject matter of Chinese painted silk on 'Chinoiserie' on the Rococo period.
