This study discusses the translational history of the western medieval philosophy in modern Korea; this paper`s arguments are the followings. 1) The western medieval philosophy was introduced into modern Korean because of their religious concern. The Korean Catholics took in it mainly through French missionaries, while the Korean Protestants through American missionaries. 2) From the enlightened age to 1953 there is no translation of original texts. In 1953, only one book was retranslated from English by JungJune-Kim, of Augustinus` Confessiones. 3) We can rarely find professional articles, if any. Among them Shin-Woo(Deokwon theological seminary`s school magazine) is drawn attention to us. It included in some articles which discussed medieval Scholasticism. 4) Then in relation to translated terms, two Latin-Korean dictionaries is worth noticing: the one is Parvum Vocabularium Latino-Coreanum (Honkong,1891), the other Dictionarium Latino-Coreanum(authored by P. Laurentio Yun,1936). The one inclined to attempt to translate Latin`s terms into pure Korean language(Hangu˘l), while the other having borrowed from modern Japanese translation-languages applied it to Hangu˘l. Perhaps this negative tendency was caused by Japanese imperialist oppression of modern Korea. 5) Therefore, Why was there no translation of original texts in modern Korea may be that modern Korean independent criticism-culture has checked by Japanese imperialism. On the other hand, it is difficult to deny that modern Korean Christianity`s extreme radicalism and conservatism have weakened sensitivity of translation. Finally, The academic world of those days had no interest in the western medieval philosophy. Due to these, no translation of original Latin-texts carried out in modern Korea.
