다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the meanings of on under the framework of Cognitive Grammar. On, like other prepositions, has traditionally been analyzed as not having its own meaning but playing only the role of connecting a noun or pronoun with a verb, adjective, or another noun. In this paper, however, I analyze on as basically profiling the spatial contact relation between two things. In a sentence, 'The cup is on the table,' the contact relation is formed between the trajector the cup and the landmark the table. But on can also profile the situation where the contact relation is extended to accommodate the usages of on in such cases as time, transportation, possession, etc. Besides the spatial contact and its extended usage, on can also profile a metaphorical abstract contact, as is seen in 'She is an authority on Shakespeare.' In this example she makes an abstract contact with Shakespeare through the research into the works of Shakespeare. This metaphorical abstract contact is easily understood when we realize that the basic meaning of on 'contact' underlies it. The discussions of various meanings of on will be summarized into the schematic relational figure.
