자아존중감이 노인의 스트레스와 우울의 관계에 미치는 매개효과 = The Effects of Self-Esteem on the Relationship between the Elderly Stress and Depression

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of self-esteem on the relationship between stress and depression in the elderly. The subjects were 234 men and women over 65 years old who were living in Kyunggi-Do and Chungcheong-Do. The subjects completed socio-demographic factors questionnaire, Stress scale, Self-Esteem Scale, and Depression Scale. Regression anaysis was employed to analyze the data. The major findings were as follows: 1) The depression in the elderly were positively related to stress while negatively related to self-esteem. 2) The self-esteem was revealed to function as a mediator in the relationship between stress and depression in this population. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed, and the suggestions for future studies were also presented.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 스트레스와 노인 우울의 관계에 대한 자아존중감의 효과를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 경기도와 충청남도 지역의 65세 이상의 노인 234명을 대상으로 인구사회학적 변인, 스트레스 척도, 자아존중감 척도, 노인우울척도로 구성된 설문지를 실시하였다. 각 변인들 사이의 관계를 알아보기 위해 피어슨 적률 상관계수를 구하였고, 노인 스트레스와 우울간의 관계에 미치는 자아존중감의 효과를 검증하기 위해 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 노인 우울은 스트레스와 정적 상관을, 자아존중감과 부적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 자아존중감은 스트레스와 노인 우울사이에 매개효과가 있음이 확인되었다. 즉 자아존중감이 노인의 스트레스와 우울사이를 조절할 수 있음이 입증되었다. 이 연구의 시사점과 제한점, 그리고 추후 연구에서 고려할 점이 논의되었다.
