This is a case report of bilateral bony ankylosis of temporomandibular joint corrvected by arthroplasty with silicone rubber implant. This ankylosis was caused by bilateral condylar fracture of the mandible due to fa11ing-down accident. The following results should have beenuanderstood. 1) Condylar fracture of the mandible due to facial injury is a important etiologic factor. And. a correct diagnosis is important to prevent the ankylosis of temporomandibular joint. 2) Preauricular incision and submandibular approach are good procedures which protect. the facial nerve and. parotid gland and to ease the bone resection in upper of the ramus of the mandible. 3) It is t prevent recurrence of ankylosis that adequate bane resection and proper selection of interposing materials. 4) It is important for improving the prognosis that continuous forceful mandib1ar movement without indermaxillary fixation after operation.
