20세기 한국의 열린 촌락, 닫힌 공동체의 이미지 = 농민의 행위패턴을 둘러싼 진화적 게임이론의 모색

국문 초록 (Abstract)

농촌해체가 완료된 열린 촌락하에서 개인주의적 농민상의 부상에도 불구하고 협력적 농민상, 농민문화의 연구사적 의의는 감소하지 않을 것이다. 이 글은 동아시아라는 세계사적 맥락에서 이행기의 한국 촌락을 이론적으로 또 비교사적으로 검토함으로써 농촌 내 농민들의 인간관계의 양상, 개인의 행위패턴 등 농민문화의 일단에 접근하고자 하는 것이다. 여기서는 기존의 공동체적 농민문화를 전제한 위에 닫힌 또는 열린 촌락하에서의 개인주의적 농민상이라는 두 가지 경로를 동시에 고려하고 있다. 근대 한국의 촌락은 형식상 열린 촌락의 특질을 보이고 있으면서도 내용상으로는 비공식적 결사체의 행태로 공동체의 이미지를 증폭시켜 왔다. 그 원인은 식민지적 규율권력의 관통, 급격한 상업화ㆍ도시화에 의해서도 해체될 수 없는, 비공식적 레벨에서 전개되고 있는 농민문화의 정신세계 때 문일 것이다. 이 글에서 제시된 농민상은 마을의 질서ㆍ규범을 의식하면서도, 협력적 행위와 개인주의적 행위를 균형있게 조합하고 선택하는 합리적 농민이다. 농민들은 마을 내에서 공유하는 일종의 ‘인지적 지향(cognitive orientation)’, 즉 농민윤리를 의식하면서 개인주의적 행위의 선택폭을 조절하고 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay aims to present a theoretical issue about the identity of Korean village, comparing with East Asia ones. Although Korean rural village has the characteristics of 'open village' in the context of the relation with outer world, we regard Korean one as a 'closed community'. Owing to have communal ethics in village, Korean village seems to has an image of 'closed corporate community', called by Eric Wolf. Peasants, who live in face-to-face society, share a cognitive orientation that peasants in village are looking forward to act a cooperative behavior all together. But It is peasant culture in the context of a limited area that village peasants can avoid the free-rider problem in community. I would like to present a peasant model that peasants act individual behavior in limited area, considering the community morals shared in village. It is rational peasant that I want to emphasize as Korean peasant's concept in this essay.
