Licorice extract is a well known herbal drug. Glycyrrhizin is one of the active component of Licorice extracts, The reported effect of glycyrrhizin on the biological system are anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcerous, anti-cariogenic and anti-viral.
In this study, the author investigated the effects of glycyrrhizin as BRM(biological response modifiers) in mice.
The obtained results were as follows;
1. Glycyrrhizin suppressed the elicitation phase of contact hypersensitivity, but didn't suppress the induction phase of that.
2. Glycyrrhizin suppressed the delayed type hypersensitivity to SRBC
3. Glycyrrhizin could not affect the humoral immune response measured antibody titer to SRBC
4. Glycyrrhizin induce dose-dependent suppression of contact hypersensitivity in mice.
