This study aimed to examine how secondary school English teachers in Korea develop their instructional concepts and practices through an intensive English teacher education program, specifically within the context of curricular reforms based on Communicative Language Teaching and the Teaching English in English policy. Fourteen teacher learners of one ELT-related course participated in this study. The data included interviews, journal entries, assignments, the course syllabus and materials as well as the program manual. The teacher learners showed similarities in their responses to the program and in their learning outcome. However, the individual teachers’ reactions to the program were different due to their diverse experiences, beliefs, and instructional contexts. Overall, teacher learners revealed that their English ability has been improved through the teacher education program. They also thought that their instructional skills have been enhanced. However, they showed dissimilar opinions about the applicability of their learning from the program to their actual English classrooms. It is suggested that when the teacher learners teach English in their own classrooms after the teacher education program, follow-up data collection and analysis should be implemented.
