The purpose of this study was to show differences in recall and recognition memory performances in a function of age and educational Ievel. One hundred and twenty persons, aged 6 to 70, participated in Experiment 1 that was designed to explore performance differences in free- and cued-recall tasks. Other sixty persons, aged 6 to 70, participated in Experiment 2 of recognition memory task. Participants in both experiments were assorted to one of 4 age groups. Educational level of all participants were matched to the oldest group of the four age groups. Results indicated that age differences were found in the Experiment 1, but not in the Experiment 2. However, the age differences in the Experiment 1 were disappeared when the educational level of the participants was controlled as a covariate.
