The purpose of study was compare the elementary school science curriculum in Korea with those in Japan.
The science educational objectives, contents and consderations for teaching of curricula were comparared by analizing the elementary science curriculum and the related materials of the elementary school science in Korea and Japan.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows.
(1) The science educational objectives in two countries emphasized understanding of scientific natural phenemena, problem-solving skill and scientific interest and attitudes, but the statements differed respectively.
(2) Contents of elementary science curricula in Korea were classified in "Knowledge" of 4areas(matter, motion and energy, living thing, earth) and "process" of 10 skills, while those in Japan were divided in 4 areas (matter and energy, living thing and the environment, earth and space) of scientific knowledge only.
(3) The most of chapters and topics of elementary science curricula in two country were organized in similar contents in all grades, especially in Japan emphasized the contents of human body in all grades.
(4) The teaching methods of elementary science curricula in Korea were described in 13 items detaily, while the considerations for teaching of curricula in J메무 were decribed in few items brevity.
