다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Le Conte du Graal is the last romance of the French auther Chretien de Troyes. One of its features is its bipartite construction, alternation of the adventures of two heros, Perceval and Gauvain. This structure even divides the tale into the part of Perceval and the part of Gauvain. This narrative shift marks a abrupt transition in the story, diverting the attention of the reader from one protagonist to the other. Perceval, the hero of the first half of the tale, young rustic and orphan of father, leaves the maternal world to make his way into the knightly world of men. This way to search for an identity leads him to his ideal model Gauvain. Then Perceval disappears from the scene and Gauvain substitutes him to be the hero of the second part of the tale. This structure is strange but doesn``t lack the logical conception, for it is as the double of Perceval that Gauvain continues the journey. So, Gauvain returns to the beginning place where Perceval has leaved, the maternal world. Perceval begins the journey and as a more mature Perceval, Gauvain ends it. The two heros are not two different persons but a continuum, two persons as early and late aspects of the same hero. Chretien, by the bipartite construction of the story, expressed two ways of looking at the same dream in the narrative continuity.
