① In a prevrous paper the author descrited his research concerning the variation of the Ehrlich’s reagent positive substances of Codonopsis Lanceolata on a monthly basis by means of the Jamma tryptophan method. In this connection it was attempted to find out when sample solution was warm water bydrolized couldn’t s appear tryptophan but when sample solution was alkali hydrolized it included not only the essential tryptophan but also many Ehrlich’s reagent positive substances of Codonopsis Lanceolata as a result the author concluded the Jamma tryptophan method to be in contradicting.
② In the present study the Ehrlich’s reagent positive substances contained in Korean corns, Ginseng, Codonopsis Lanceolata and the seed of Codonopsis Lanceoleta etc. were separated by thin layer chromotography. They were separated as many bands of Codonopsis Lanceolata and Ginseng among them. This is interesting and significant because Indol derivatives are important in medicine.
③ The separation ratio also differed according to the extracting solvent : methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, warm water etc. among them both methyl and ethyl aclohol extraction showed many bands.
④ The Codonopsis Lanceolata were collected on the mountains of Kangwon Prefecture. In order to get seeds they were also collected from cultivations in front of Chunchon Teacher’s College. The author also investigated methods of cultivation of Codonopsis Lanceolata.
