This study investigates the reliability and concurrent validity of a Story Comprehension Assessment composed of two tests, the first, Story Comprehension Test I, uses retelling and the other, Story Comprehension Test 2 measures listening comprehension. Both tests were designed for this study. For the retelling test, each child was read a short, 1 1/2-2 minute story and was immediately requested to retell the story. The accuracy of the child`s retelling was evaluated using a checklist of 12 key content ideas for each story. For the listening comprehension test, the child was read a short, 1 1/2-2 minute story and asked to complete 12 orally presented cloze sentences based upon the story`s content. The reliability of Story Comprehension Test 1 and 2 was sufficient. Concurrent validity for Story Comprehension Test 1, 2 was moderate at .50 with PTI. The story Comprehension Test 1 was low at .266 with Sentence Understanding and Story Comprehension Test 2 was moderate .625 with Sentence Understanding.
