    Purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between obese children and standard weight children in HLC and self-esteem.
    Hypothesis of this study were as follows;
    1. There would be significant differences in HLC between obese standard weight children.
    HLC-internal score of obese children would be lower than that of standard weight children.
    HLC-chance score of obese children would be higher than that of standard weight children.
    HLC-powerful score of obese children would be higher than that of standard weight children.
    2. Self-esteem of obese children would be lower than that of standard weight children.
    3. There would be significant correlations between HLC and self-esteem in obese children. And there would be no significant correlation in standard weight children.
    Subject of this study consisted of 44 obese children and 51 standard weight children of fifth and sixth grade.
    Instructments used for this study were Wallston and Wallston's Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (1978) and Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory (1967). These instructments were tranlated and revised in order to be useful for purpose of the present study.
    For the data analysis, t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient were applied.
    Results of the present study could be summarized as follows:
    1. There were no significant differences in the score of HLC-internal and HLC-chance between the obese and standard weight children. However, the HLC-powerful score of obese children was higher than that of standard weight children.
    2. The self-esteem score of obese children was lower than that of standard weight children.
    3. The correlation between HLC-chance and self-esteem of obese children was found negatively related. However, there were no significant correlations between the self-esteem and HLC-internal and powerful in obese children. The correlations between HLC and self-esteem were not found related in standard weight children.
