Interpretation, Translation and Culture toward Development

국문 초록 (Abstract)

아시아의 ‘경제 기적’, 최근 서구의 금융 위기, 중국의 급부상 등을 고려해볼 때, 동서양은 그 어느 때보다 긴밀한 관계에 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 심각한 소통의 문제가 여전하다. 한국은 눈부신 경제성장과 민주화를 동시에 이룩하였으며, 이 과정에서 세계화에 적극 동참하기 위해 영어교육에 대한 관심과 열기 또한 뜨거워졌다. 그러나 심각한 문제가 있다. 비록 한국의 영어 교육제도는 실용적이기는 하나, 영어를 단순히 비즈니스를 위한 소통 수단으로만 바라본다. 이 때문에 많은 사람들에게 영어공부는 그저 시험성적 취득 또는 취업을 위한 수단일 뿐이다. 이제 정·재계에서는 한국의 발전된 여러 분야를 세계에 보여주고, 각 분야가 세계와 소통하는 데 필수적인 영어의 교육수준에 대해 실망하는 목소리가 높아지고 있다.
본 연구는 한국문화 전파, 민주화 실현, 경제발전 추진 등에 있어 통·번역사가 어떤 역할을 수행하는지에 대해 천착하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이중언어사용자로서의 통·번역사는 문화를 초월하여 정부, 기업, 사람을 잇는 연결점이 된다. 이를 잘 이해하지 못한다면, 이문화간 소통 중개자로서의 통·번역사로서도 큰 역할을 하기가 어려울 것이다.
