      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to identify risk factors for perceived parenting stress, a potential indicator of child maltreatment among welfare mothers. A secondary data analysis of the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study was conducted. The 918 mothers who had received welfare or TANF in the past year were selected from the 3‐year interview. A Perceived Parenting Stress Scale was created from mothers’ level of agreement with four aspects of parenting difficulty and strain. The results demonstrated that working overtime or a second job or having an anxiety disorder increased the perceived parenting stress score by 0.65 points (p≤.05) and 1.61 points (p≤.05), respectively after controlling for other family and environment risk factors. Separation from the child for more than 1 week and having work-related stress increased the parenting stress score by 0.68 points (p≤.05) and 0.51 points (p≤.05), respectively. These findings suggest that public policies should work in an integrated fashion to offer families adequate resources and social services to help prevent child maltreatment, prior to CPS involvement.
