As a result of this study, a traditional dance of Korea, especially a Court Dance, is tended to show that it is constituted by the principle of the cosmic dual forces and the Five primary substance. The motion of the dance in itself represents a system of the energy of the cosmic dual forces and the Five primary substance as like the composition signifies the concept of the Five directions. This implies meaningfully a “Harmony” which symbolizes Asian aesthetic consciousness on graceful matching in addition to that the dance in itself involves the order of the cosmos and the way of life. That is to say, beauty peculiar of a Korean traditional dance is found out in “a harmony of the sun and the moon” and “a harmony of the Five primary substance”. The energy caused by the motion of the dance, which is elegant splendidly and seems to spout out moderately, is characterized as an aesthetic structure of a harmoniously coexisted contradiction of the cosmic dual forces and the Five primary substance.
Consequently, if we teach this conception and system of the principle to our descendants, the soul of Korean dance would revive and furthermore on the creating, the circulation of the cosmic dual forces and the Five primary substance could be applicable to express bodily a stream of the energy, that is, the principle of our traditional dance.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국문초록본 연구는 궁중정재에 나타나는 음양오행적 표현을 알아보는 데에 있다. 궁중정재에 대한 구조적 분석을 통해 우리 전통춤만이 가지고 있는 독특한 형식과 미적 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 이것은 더 나아가 현대의 전통춤을 해석할 수 있는 원리체계를 구축할 수 있을 것으로 생각되어진다.음양오행을 분석의 틀로 하는 데에는 우주 만물의 원리를 음양오행을 통해서 본 우리 선조들의 삶의 방식을 따르고자 하는 것이다.　이는 타 문화에서 보여지는 음양오행의 원리를 밝힘으로써 그 이론적 배경으로서 타당성을 제공할 수 있다고 본다.본 연구의 결과 한국 전통춤 특히 궁중정재는 음양오행의 원리로 만들어진 것을 알 수 있는데, 이것은 작대에서 보여지는 오방의 개념과 함께 춤사위에서도 음양오행의 기의 순환 체계를 그대로 하고 있음을 뜻한다. 이는 춤에 우주의 질서와 삶의 방식이 그대로 담겨져 있다는 뜻과 더불어 동양의 미의식을 조화롭게 어우러지는 和에 두고 있는 것이다. 즉 음양의 조화, 오행의 조화 속에서 우리 전통춤의 독특한 미를 찾을 수 있겠다. 춤사위에서 보여지는 단아하면서도 화려하고 절제 되어 있으면서도 내뿜는 듯한 기운은 음양과 오행의 조화로운 상반상생의 미적 구조라고 특징 지울 수 있다. 특히 왕 앞에서 추어지는 춤이기에 손을 가리고 한삼을 낀 멋스러움까지 더해져서 그 기의 흐름은 더욱 선명하게 드러난다. 이러한 원리체계와 사상적 근원은 춤뿐만이 문화 전반에 녹아있는 양태를 보인다. 그렇기 때문에 동양은 기, 음양, 오행이라는 정체공능으로 구성된 우주를 형성하였고 그것은 하늘, 땅, 사람에게 운용되어 문화 곳곳에 스며들어있다.따라서 우리 전통춤을 교육할 때고 이러한 사상과 원리체계를 알고 가르친다면, 춤사위 정신은 살아날 것이며, 더 나아가 창작을 할 때도 국적불명의 춤이 아닌 우리 전통춤의 원리 즉 기의 흐름을 몸으로 표출하는 음양과 오행의 순환을 응용하여 만들어낼 수 있다고 본다.
