일본 창세 신화의 변용과정과 특성 -󰡔고사기󰡕, 󰡔일본서기󰡕를 중심으로 = The Transformation Process and Characteristics of Japanese Creation Myths -Focusing on the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 일본의 창세 신화에 대해 살펴보았다. 창세 신화는 우주의 발생과 인류의 기원 등을 다루는 신화의 한 갈래로, 일본 신화에서는 천지개벽, 창세 신의 거신적 성격, 물과 불의 근본, 인간 창조, 일월 조정 등 다양한 신화적 요소들이 포함된다. 일본의 창세 신화는 󰡔고사기󰡕와 󰡔일본서기󰡕에 기록되어 있으며, 이는 중앙조정이 신화를 통해 천황의 지위를 강조하려는 정치적 의도가 반영된 결과임을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히, 일본 최초의 통일 정권인 야마토 정권의 형성과 관련된 배경에서는 천황 중심의 통치 확립을 위한 신화의 변용이 나타난다.
이 연구는 일본 창세 신화의 세 가지 주요 특징을 강조한다. 첫째, 창세 신화에는 정치적 이념이 강하게 반영되어 있다. 둘째, 근친혼이나 성적 관념에 대한 개방적 태도가 드러난다. 셋째, 일본 신화는 이분법적 세계관을 가지고 있으며, 성별이나 자연의 구분을 통해 위계적 사고를 형성한다. 이러한 신화적 특성은 일본인의 문화와 의식에 대한 이해를 돕고, 신화가 민족의 문화에 미치는 영향 역시 엿볼 수 있는 중요한 통찰을 제공한다. 본 연구를 통해 일본 창세 신화의 내용과 특징을 통해 일본인의 문화와 의식에 대한 깊은 이해가 이루어지기를 기대한다.

This study examines the creation myths of Japan. Creation myths, which deal with the origin of the universe and humanity, are a branch of mythology that includes various mythological elements such as the creation of heaven and earth, the divine nature of the creator gods, the origins of water and fire, the creation of humans, and the regulation of the sun and moon in Japanese mythology. These creation myths are recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, reflecting the political intention to emphasize the position of the emperor through mythology. In particular, regarding the formation of the first unified Japanese state, the Yamato regime, there is an evident transformation of mythology aimed at establishing emperor-centered rule.
This study highlights three key characteristics of Japanese creation myths. First, political ideology is strongly reflected in the creation myths. Second, there is an open attitude towards consanguinity and sexual concepts. Third, Japanese mythology has a dualistic worldview, which forms hierarchical thinking through distinctions of gender and nature. These mythological characteristics offer valuable insights into understanding Japanese culture and consciousness, and provide an important perspective on the influence of mythology on the culture of a nation. This research hopes to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and consciousness through the content and characteristics of Japanese creation myths.
