상담자의 공감나누기 체험에 대한 질적연구 = A Qualitative Study on Counselors' Experiences of Sharing Empathy

This study is a qualitative study about counselors’ experiences of sharing empathy through a program of small group. 12 counselors who participated in two small groups divided into novice and expert counselors were interviewed and their interview were analyzed using grounded theory. As a result, the central phenomenon of the process turned out to be ‘reflective consideration and self-comprehension’. Causal conditions were ‘discomfort without authentic response’ and ‘change of focus into a counselor’, the context condition was ‘cut-off feeling due to over response. ‘Acceptance experience and psyche link’ turned out be the intervening condition and ‘psyche open’ as well as ‘understanding personal difference’ appeared to be inter/action/emotional responses. The consequences revealed ‘thoughtful empathetic experiences and prehension’ and ‘professional temperament ascent’. The results included open coding, axial coding, story outline through selective coding and process analysis. The core category by selective coding was ‘a process of self-awareness and competence reestablishment as a counselor through experiences empathy, observation and reflective consideration’. Process analysis related to the core phenomena were four stages: comprehension and awareness, mind-open, interpretive insight and improving empathy competence. The implications of the current study were discussed and the related follow-up research proposals have been presented.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 상담자들의 공감나누기 소집단 참여 경험을 탐색한 질적연구이다. 초심상담자 및 경력상담자 2개 그룹에 참여한 12명을 대상으로 개별적인 심층 면접한 내용을 근거이론 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 상담자들의 공감나누기 참여 경험의 중심현상은 ‘반성적 성찰과 자기이해’로 나타났다. 인과적 조건은 ‘진정성 없는 반응에 대한 불편감’과 ‘상담자에게 초점 전환’이었으며, ‘과잉 반응으로 인한 감정 차단’은 맥락적 조건으로 작용하였다. ‘수용경험과 마음연결’은 중재적 조건으로, ‘마음 열림’과 ‘개인적 차이 이해’가 작용/상호작용/정서적 반응으로 나타났다. 결과는 ‘깊이 있는 공감 체험 및 이해’와 ‘전문적 자질 향상’으로 드러났다. 연구결과는 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩을 통한 이야기 윤곽과 과정분석을 포함하였으며, 선택코딩에 의한 핵심범주는 ‘공감 체험 및 관찰과 반성적 성찰을 바탕으로 한 상담자로서의 자기인식과 역량 재정립 과정’으로 도출되었다. 중심현상과 관련된 과정 분석은 이해와 인식 단계, 마음 열림 단계, 해석적 통찰 단계, 공감적 역량강화 단계의 4단계로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 공감훈련에 대한 시사점과 후속연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.
