택견 문화 읽기 : 위대태껸 발생의 의미 = A study on current cultural transition of taekkyeon

After taekkyeon was designated as acultural heritage, there was constant conflicts between associations aboutoriginality and membership of Korean Olympic Committee. Currently 3associations are trying to unify themselves. Korea Taekkyon Federation and Korea Taekgyeon Associationalready unified.
In this situation, Widae TaekkyeonOrganization, which was established recently, got into the middle of the debatefor claiming that they possess the originality. And after getting to know Widaetaekkyeon, several leaders, who were famous in their associations and hadexperience as competitors, transferred their association.
To examine this phenomenon, by using purposeful sampling, thisresearch contains deep interview. 1 leaders who had experience as a competitorare selected for each associations as interviewees. From them this researchtried to find out what chances has made them to contact Widae Taekkyeon, andhow is the reproduction process after transferring their association.
The research practiced a non-structuralizedinterview with the participators of the research, interview was recorded byusing a recorder, and transcribed. The transcript was analyzed by using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. By thisprocess, 16 notions, 8 subordinate categories, and 4 categories was acquired.It was able to gain following conclusions.
Firstly, 3 taekkyeon associations learnedtaekkyeon from same master but had different training systems and intentions,which made them to follow different pathways. It was the main reason ofconstant controversies. However recent associations’ controversies was wrappedup and unifications were in process. In this background situation, WidaeTaekkyeon Association’s establishment aims to stop further distortion of theoriginal form of Taekkyeon, and succeed Master Song, Duk-gi’s art by followingKo, Yong-woo, who is the direct disciple of Song.
Secondly, research participants was highlyengaged with prior associations and their capabilities was acknowledged butthey had conflicts with the president of association and had different opinionsabout Widae Taekkyeon.
Thirdly, research participants contactedwith Widae Taekkyeon by other person’s suggestion or their own doubts aboutoriginal form of taekkyeon. They decided transferring the association becauseof the experience of movements, principles, and techniques, which were not ableto find in other association’s curriculums.
Fourthly, reproduction process throughWidae Taekkyeon is showing two ways. One is transferring the associationcompletely and teaching Song, Duk-gi’s full taekkyeon or teaching with trainingsystem, which is made by complementally combining the prior associationstraining system with Widae Taekkyeon’s training system.
But the unification of two major associations, Korea Taekkyon Federationand Korea Taekgyeon Association,would rather make the reproduction process and transfer to Widae Taekkyeonwither away if there is no further historical materials suggested or additionalexpansions followed, since any taekkyeon association needs the title as anational cultural heritage, UNESCO cultural heritage, and the membership ofKorea Olympic Committee.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 택견이 문화재에 등재된 이후 협회간의 원형논쟁과 체육회 가맹에있어 오랜시간 끊임없는 갈등이 이어져 왔으나 현재 3단체간의 통합이 이루어지고 있고 이미 대한택견회와 한국택견협회는 통합을 하였다.
이러한 상황에서 신생단체인 위대태껸회가 또다시 택견의 원형을 주장하면서 논쟁의 중심이 되었고 각 협회에서 상당히 높은 인지도를 가지고 있었던 일부 선수 경험이 있는 지도자들이 위대태껸을 접한 후 협회를 이동하는 현상이 나타났다.
이를 위하여 목적표집방법을 통해 협회별 선수로 활동한 적이 있는 지도자 각 1명씩을 대상으로 하였으며, 3단체에서 높은 인지도를 가지고 있었던 관계자들이 여러 계기를 통해 위대태껸을 접하게 되었으며 위대태껸을 접한 후 협회 이동을 통해 재생산 과정을 심층면담을 통해 알아보고자 하였다.
연구참여자들을 대상으로 비구조화된 인터뷰를 면담하였고 면담내용은 녹음기를 사용하여 녹취한 후 전사작업을 실시하여 전사화된 자료를 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩 절차에 따라 분석하여 16개의 개념, 8개의 하위범주, 4개의 범주가 도출되었다. 이를 토대로 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
첫째, 3단체의 택견협회는 같은 스승에게 택견을 배웠지만 서로다른 수련체계와 방향성으로 다른 행보를 걸었으며 그로인하여 끊임없는 논쟁이 이어져 왔다. 그러나 최근 협회간의 논쟁을 접어두고 통합이 이루어지는 상황에서 더이상의 택견원형 왜곡을 막고 초대 기능보유자 송덕기의 택견을 전수하고자 직계제자인 고용우를 중심으로 위대태껸회를 설립하게 되었다.
둘째, 연구참여자 중 소속되어 있었던 협회에서 여러 방면으로 활동하였으며 높은 인지도를 가지고 있었으나 소속 협회 회장 및 택견원형에 대한 갈등이 있었고 위대태껸회에 대한 입장에 대해서도 다른 견해를 가지고 있었다.
셋째, 연구참여자 중 주변의 권유 또는 원형에 관한 의구심에 의해 본인 스스로 위대태껸을 접하였으며 기존 협회에서 찾아볼 수 없었던 동작의 원리 및 기술의 경험이 협회이동을 시작하게된 계기가 되었다.
넷째, 위대태껸을 통한 재생산 과정은 연구참여자 중 본인이 소속되어 있던 협회를 떠나 송덕기의 온전한 택견을 전수 및 보급하려는 경우와 본인이 소속되어있던 협회의 수련체계와 위대태껸의 수련체계를 상호보완하여 전수 및 보급하고자 하는 입장을 보였다.
하지만 택견협회의 양대산맥인 대한택견회와 한국택견협회의 통합으로 인하여 위대태껸회로 협회 이동 및 재생산 과정은 택견의 문화재와 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재, 대한체육회 정가맹단체로서의 활동이 필요한 상황에서는 전통적인 사료를 제사하는 결정적 자료와 세력확장 없이는 점차 소멸해 나가지 않을까 보여진다.
