일본의 다문화공생 담론과 아이덴티티 재구축 = Discourse on co-existence of multi-culture and reconstruction of identity in Japan

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Japan has experienced the transformation of the ethnically and culturally homogeneous society into the multi-ethnic and multi-cultual society as an unprecedented phenomenon since the 1980s. That phenomenon raised a serious challenge to the Japanese system based on an assumption of the homogeneity of the people. The transformation does not end up only with the co-existence of the Japanese and ethnic minority, but takes place within both the Japanese and the ethnic minority themselves as well. This paper focuses on the appearance of social groups that cannot be easily identifiable as ``the Japanese`` or ``foreigners`` in the 1990s and deals with the patterns and meanings of the raising questions about the conventional mode of identification of the Japanese ad the attempts to reconstruct identity of the Japanese.
