일치와 다른 사람의 유익을 돌봄(필리 2,1-4)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 필리피 서간 2,1-4를 중심으로 이상적인 공동체의 모습을 고찰하였다. 바오로가 공동체에 대하여 무엇을 이야기하고 있는지, 이러한 말을 하게 된 배경은 무엇인지, 그리고 그의 편지를 받은 공동체의 상황과 오늘의 그리스도인 공동체, 더 나아가 현대사회를 비교 관찰하여 바람직한 공동체의 모습을 성찰하였다.
연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 바오로는 필리피 신자들이 내부의 갈등이나 불화로 인해 공동체의 일치와 조화가 깨지지 않기를 바라고 있다. 공동체 전체를 향한 일반적인 권고(2,1-4)는 그들이 경험한 그리스도의 격려와 위로, 성령 안에서의 친교와 긍휼과 자비에 기초하여 뜻을 같이하고 같은 사랑과 같은 마음, 한 뜻을 이루며 이기심이나 헛된 영광을 구하지 않고 다른 사람을 자신보다 낫게 여기며, 다른 사람들의 유익을 돌보는 삶이다. 한편 필리피 교회의 두 여성, 에우오디아와 신티케를 향한 개인적인 권고(4,2-3) 역시 ‘뜻을 같이할 것’이다. 이것은 모든 일에서의 의견 일치보다는 ‘공동의 목적을 위해 마음을 같이함’으로 이해할 수 있다. 또한 바오로는 교회의 다른 한 사람에게 그들을 도와줄 것을 당부한다. 둘째, 이들 본문을 분석한 결과, 필리피 서간의 ‘주요 동기’를 두 여성의 불화로 인한 공동체 내부의 분열과 이를 막기 위한 사도의 애정 어린 권고로 보게 한다. 셋째, 바오로의 공동체 일치의 권고는 오늘의 교회와 현대사회 공동체에게도 적절한 실천 지침이다. 그 가운데 몇 가지를 든다면, 하나, ‘뜻을 같이 하라’는 개인이나 집단 사이의 이념이나 견해의 다름에서 오는 충돌이나 갈등이 발생할 때 우리가 되새겨야 할 가르침이다. 둘, ‘다른 사람들을 자기보다 낫게 여기고 그들의 유익을 돌보라’는 경쟁이 과열되고 이기적인 태도가 확장되고 있는 현실에서 우리 자신을 성찰하게 하는 귀중한 조언이다. 셋, ‘개인 사이에 분쟁과 갈등이 있을 때 제삼자가 도와주어야 한다’ 는 권고 역시 오늘 우리에게 중요하다. 개인주의가 심화되는 사회에서 이웃을 위해 나의 시간과 힘을 들이는 수고는 공동체를 보존하고 보호하는 하나의 방법이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper, we investigate the ideal Christian community as conveyed in Philippians 2:1-4. We primarily examine Paul’s words directed towards this church, while also analyzing the context of such a dialogue. Next, a comparison is made between the so-called ‘Sitz im Leben’ in Philippians and contemporary Christian reality as well as our broader general societal context.
The findings of this study are as follows: First of all, Paul shows his concern regarding the internal unity of the Philippian church. In the general exhortation directed at the whole community(2:1-4), Paul claims that they must be unified in mind, love, and soul ? while humbly placing the interests of their fellow believers above their own. Paul’s appeal is based on the blessings, encouragement, comfort, compassion and mercy of Christ as well as the fellowship of the Spirit. At the same time, Paul makes a personal exhortation towards two women, Euodia and Syntyche who are his colleagues the Gospel (4:2-3). He appeals to them to be united in their work for the Gospel. Paul’s emphasis here is to instill a commitment towards a similar aim and purpose. He even asks a third person to come to their assistance. Secondly, the analysis of these two paragraphs leads to us understand that one of the main reasons for Paul’s letter to the Philippians was to address the conflict and disunity between these two women. Finally, Paul’s exhortation to the Philippians regarding Christian unity is even more directly and universally applicable to the modern church and even to our greater social community. His instructions could be used as practical guidelines for those who live in a certain context of a community in the process of fragmentation.
