This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of household interview survey that is currently used in community health survey. A detailed comparison of the household interview and alternative methods was planned. For this purpose, theoretical and empirical literature review was performed and the main part to be compared was identified. In particular, the effectiveness of internet survey or web-based survey was mainly accessed. Its results are summarized as follows: First, there are limitations of internet survey as the main survey method in community health survey. Although internet survey seems to be more suitable for certain types of socio-demographic groups, internet survey is currently restricted to a supplementary survey method. Second, the effect of survey methods, i.e., mode effect was not found in the case of the result of community health survey. The difference is related to the characteristics of its respondents. Third, the interviewer effect is significant. In order to improve the response rates and reliability of the survey, multiple visits appear to have no chance of improving the quality of data. Thus, the more detailed guideline for household visit and interview should be prepared. In addition, two-person team will be a way to prepare for various changes of interview environment.
