『용재총화(?齋叢話)』 소재(所載) 소화(笑話)의 연구(硏究) = On the Funny Story Collected in Yongjae chonghwa

The aim of this paper is to make a specific and in-depth research on the funny stories collected in Yongjaechonghwa(용齋叢話, Assorted Writings of Yongjae), especially on the features and types of these stories and their meaning to the later Korean literary history. First the funny story has its literary significance or meaning in the literary history. It could be found or proved through its affection on the other genres in literature. There are two series of the Korean funny stories, like Sa-Daebu Ilhwa 사대부逸話 (official anecdotes) and Mindam 民譚 (Korean Tales). Yongjae chonghwa could be seen as an integrated book which includes both types of series. The lecherous stories which accounted for 30% of the funny stories in Yongjaechonghwahad direct or indirect effects on the later literary jest-books. It could be confirmed through EoMyeonSun 禦眠楯, SogEoMyeonSun 續禦眠楯 and other pornographic stories collected in the historian story books 야담집. Yongjae chonghwa also had an effect on sarcastic novels; it could be proved by the relationship between these funny stories and other genres. In some respect, the funny story was not only accepted as the material of the novel, but also had an effect on the figures and composition of these novels. Yongjae chonghwa especially were applied to those humorous or sarcastic comic novels without any changes. So the Yongjaechonghwa is meaningful in narrative literature because it showed the changing process of it from the funny story to the novel.
