베이비부머의 근로소득 불평등과 변화 = Inequality and Trend in the Earnings of Korean Baby Boomer

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This purpose of this study is to analyzes the patterns and changing factors of economic gap and income inequality in Korea baby boomers, focusing on the effect of heterogeneity among baby boomers. In order to do this, distinguished the types of class in to six groups that “professional manager class”, “sales/service class”, “petty self-employment class” “farmer class”, “skilled working class”, “unskilled working class”, estimate earned income gap, pattern of earned income inequality depending on the class. Data come from Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th wave. Income inequality is measured by the Gini coefficient and generalized entropy indices and decomposed inequality trend. The results are as follows. Firstly, income inequality of baby boomer is high and the earning polarization within class in baby boomer has become more serious in Korea. Secondly, the occupation class at the earned income level has a significant effect on the income differentials. Thirdly, a transition to old age is associated with an increase in income inequality. The gini index and generalized entropy indices increased steadily over the period analysis. Based on the research results, the following policy implications can be drawn. First, various policy supports are needed to increase the income of the low level class(especially, farmer class and unskilled working class) in order to continue alleviation of the income inequality. Second, social security system need to be reformed for baby boomers in poverty or labour market vulnerable classes. Moreover, vocational training and retirement planning programs for low level classes and specialized policy should be implemented to give incentive to the low level in low income class earn greater income so that they can break away from low income. Public policies for human resource management and job creations could lead them to get decent jobs.
