The purpose of this study were to examine the present status, to find problems, and to suggest directions to promote science education in Gyeonggi Province.
For this, data were mainly collected by review of literature and surveys with personnels of province office of education and science teachers of middle and high schools.
This study proposes, first of all, that more financial and systematic support(educational facilities, laboratory equipment, science programs, workshops, research institutes, and etc.) should be encouraged and participated to improve science education. Secondly, ongoing professional development for science teachers should be provided enough to develop their own skills. Teachers need more opportunities to learn over time, with attention to both the new approaches and hot to use them in their classrooms. Thirdly, educational opportunities for those who are very good at science should be provided fully to develope their unique talents based on their needs, backgrounds, abilities, motivations, and etc. Fourthly, infrastructures around regions(universities, university-based educators, research institutes, etc) should be encouraged to be involved and be responsive to the needs and demands of a wide variety of educators and noneducators.
