This thesis focuses on describing general sigimsae that expresses representative menari t’ori in Kangwǒn province to be able to sing with its character and to utilize study of disappearing folksong sigimsae for further research.
Following research includes <Chǒngsǒn Arari>, <Yangu Ǒlleji T’aryǒng >, <Wǒnju Tunggae T’aryǒng >, <Hoingsǒng Tonggǔrangtt’aeng>, and <T’aebaek Ssasiraengi>.

First, Looking at the functions of composition sounds for ‘Mi(E) musical scale’ folk songs <Chǒngsǒn Arari>, <Yangu Ǒlleji T’aryǒng >, <Wǒnju Tunggae T’aryǒng >, and <Hoingsǒng Tonggǔrangtt’aeng>, Mi(E) typically has strong vibrations and sometimes work as decoration tones. Sol(G) flows through main three tones La(A)-Sol(G)-Mi(E) when sings downwards and works as rolling tone. La(A) works as connection tone to help decoration tone in front with strong vibrations when you sing downwards or upwards. It sometimes has flat tone without any vibrations depend on the tune. Do(C) adopts characteristics of its music, and has the most diverse functions which are vibration tone, flat tone and rolling tone. Re(D) mainly functions fine vibrations and also works variously to help sigimsae in some cases like Do(C).

Second, after the analysis of melody and tones, it cannot be identified as certain roles of the tones unlike southern folksongs called namdo minyo. However, the typical character of menari t’ori in eastern folksongs, progressing downwards (La(A)-Sol(G)-Mi(E)) remains the same. Decoration tone, bending tone, and rolling tone can be expressed differently by the tunes.

Third, most of tunes throughout this research have 3 beats. <Chǒngsǒn Arari> is written in 9/8 meter considering its characteristics and chungmori changdan would be appropriate tempo. <Yangu Ǒlleji T’aryǒng> is written in 3/4 meter as its tempo is too slow to be 3 beats. It also suits chungmori changdan. Kut’kŏri changdan is best for <Wǒnju Tunggae T’aryǒng> rather than chungmori changdan for its upbeat tempo. <Hoingsǒng Tonggǔrangtt’aeng > is written in 12/8 meter which are made of 4 main frame beats in normal 3 beats rhythm. The feel of its tempo should be little slower than chajinmori changdan but faster than semach’i.
<Hoingsǒng Tonggǔrangtt’aeng > has most similarity to pokkǔm t’aryǒng changdan’s rhythm from <Ǒrang T’aryǒng> in kyǒnggi folk songs. However, its dynamics (strong accents on the third beat in A section and the fifth beat in B section) is expressed differently to maximize the expression of the rhythm. Tempo in <T’aebaek Ssasiraengi> shows similarity to tongsalp’uri changdan, 4 beats pattern, but it is divided to A-opening changdan and B-closing changdan to find its character. Also this song is made of 4/4 meter in 2-beats pattern. Another four songs are in all 3-beat pattern and they appear to have two major changes in expression of texts. This thesis also makes it clear that pronunciation of final consonant changes by rhythm, and also rhythm and expression are important elements of sigimsae.

Fourth, by the analysis of the transcribed songs, most of folk songs in Kangwǒn province are made of Mi(E) scale, hence the existence of menari t’ori is ascertained. It is also proved by all of the four songs except <Hoingsǒng Tonggǔrangtt’aeng> which influenced by kyǒngt’ori musical scale. Using three tones, La(A), Sol(G), and Mi(E), which are main tones in ‘Mi(E) scale,’ is a distinctive feature from sigimsae. Down progressing tone of Menari t’ori presents rolling tone from La(A) to Sol(G), which sounds like Sol consecutively, and strongly vibrating tone in Mi(E). These are the main musical characteristics of Kangwǒn province and the typical tune of sigimsae. Other melodies are expressed differently by the peculiarities of the songs as mentioned above.
