高敞出土銅印考 = Study on the Bronze Seal from the Gochang Stone Chamber Tomb

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The bronze seal discovered at Sinjimae Stone Chamber Tomb No. 5 from
Ohori, Gochang, has received much attention due to the significance of the seal
itself, as well as the possibility of interpreting the seal symbols. The form and
symbols of the seal resemble that of practical seals from the Southern Chinese
Liang Dynasty. The newly discovered seal will therefore be able to provide new
information regarding diplomatic relations between Baekje and China. Such
Chinese seals—in particular official seals manufactured by the central
government—have not been previously excavated in Korea. As a result, there
has been little opportunity for research into the ancient Chinese official seal
system and its historical background. This article first examines how the official
seal system was managed and operated from the Chinese Han Dynasty to the
Southern and Northern Dynasties. It also examines the interpretations which
have been put forth regarding the process by which the Gochang bronze seal
ended up in the Korean peninsula.
