In order to study the change of properties of SKD11 for coldworking Die steel by addition REM with the various heat treatment, the variation of microstructures, hardness, carbide precipitation, amounts of retained austenite and impact value have been investigated,
1. REM addition is very effective for the crystal nucleation during steel solidification. Accordingly it results in smaller grain size.
2. REM obstructed quenching structure from disintegration to make a stabilization of martensite structure.
3. On adding 0.1% REM at 1050℃. the steel reached the maximun hardness, also showed up the more hardness under air cooliug than oil quenching.
