월천 조목의 국토 기행과 그 시적 형상 = A Study on Wolcheon Jo Mok`s Travel around the Country and Its Poetic Embodiment

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study mainly addressed how Wolcheon Jo Mok, one of Toigye Lee Hwang``s eminent pupils, traveled around the country and what kind of nature his works created during the travel had with a focus on his travel poems. It is known that Jo Mok led a scholarly life in a remote village of Yean without holding office, but he did go on various trips including pursuing further study at the Baekwoondong Lecture Hall of Punggi, studying at Seonggyungwan of Seoul, holding local government offices including Dosa of Chungcheong Province and Gunsu of Hapcheon, and climbing Mt. Sobaek with his teacher. He created a good number of works during his travels, and his poems depicted the daily life of classical scholars during the times, the profound operation of the self-cultivation theory, the nostalgic sentiment of being far away from home, and the patriotic consciousness of classical scholars. The present study chose the manuscript of Collection of Wolcheon``s Works as its text. The collection boasts much richer content than the first version of Wolcheon Collection, which was published in 1666(7th year of King Hyeonjong``s reign) 60 years after his death, and the revised version of Wolcheon Collection, whose publication year is not known. His works of poetic literature, on which the present study focused, amounted to 123 in the printed version and to 633 in the manuscript version, which contained five times more poems than the printed version. The present study presented the first case that investigated the poetic literature of Jo Mok with those works as its texts.
