앤더슨의 영화 <만약에...>의 그림자 다루기 = Dealing with Shadow in Anderson’s Film If...

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 린지 앤더슨의 영화 <만약에...>(If..., 1968)에서 묘사하는 청소년의 갈등관계를 융의 그림자 이론으로 탐색한다. 융에 따르면 그림자는 누구나 갖고 있는 무의식의 양상인 어두운 면이다. 그림자는 억압받거나 거부당한 것들로 내면에 숨어있다. 그림자는 타인에게 쉽게 투사되어 자신 속에는 없는 것처럼 여긴다. 그림자의 투사는 자신과 비슷한 부류의, 같은 성의 대상에 투사된다. 가상의 퍼블릭 스쿨 기숙사를 배경으로 전개되는 영화에서 선도부 ‘휩스’는 권력남용의 피해자가 되는 특정 학생들 ‘십자군’에게 폭행을 진행하고 가해자-피해자 구도를 형성한다. ‘십자군’은 학교 체제에 저항하는 결과를 유발하는데, 이 과정에는 학교 체제의 책무 유기가 작용한다. ‘휩스’와 ‘십자군’의 핵심인물은 서로를 증오하는데 두 사람이 상대방으로부터 자신들의 어두운 그림자를 발견하기 때문이다. 그림자는 피하거나 부정하기보다는 공감과 상호작용이 필요하다. 본 논문은 그림자 이론이 갈등을 예방하고 문제를 해결하는 하나의 방법이 될 수 있음을 제안한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article explores the conflict relation between two boy figures in Lindsay Anderson's movie If.... in light of Jungian shadow aspect. According to Jung, everyone has a shadow which is unconscious aspect of personality. Shadow is oppressed or denied things, which stays deep inside oneself. Shadow can be project easily to others, who are similar to the one. In If... the boy figures - one of student representatives 'Whips', the other of 'Crusaders' - see their own shadow through each other. The boys become potential bully-victim and hate each other. Lack of school authority and Whips’s power abuse result in Crusaders' riot. Shadow needs communicate, interaction and empathy rather than avoidance and denial. Shadow theory can be a resolution of conflict.
