In recent years, cultural tourism has been regarded as a major lucrative niche within tourism industry and the planning and development of cultural tourism is booming around the world and a number of countries have embarked on vigorous cultural tourism development programs to bolster the perceived economic benefits of tourism.
To compete and survive in this competitive situation, Jeju tourism industry is trying to satisfy the strong market demand for cultural tourism. Actually, the main strength of Jeju tourism is its cultural attractions, the large number of monuments and archaeological remains scattered throughout the country, its art, artifacts, colorful arts and festivals. Jeju has a rich cultural heritage which ensures its capacity to attract international cultural tourists and gives Jeju a competitive advantage in the highly competitive tourism industry.
Jeju can offer a wide range of cultural facilities of all levels and categories, and so can maximize revenue potential and offer cultural attractiveness which are spread throughout the country as tourism products by the tourism industry.
Although Jeju's rich culture is often described as unique, distinctive and intrinsic characteristics, there is relatively little information concerning the characteristics of cultural tourism and how managerial programs should be organized to attract tourists in the most effective manner.
Based on this consideration, the purpose of this research is to develop Jeju's cultural tourism value and assets by way of several steps, developing products and finding cultural resources, strengthening marketing strategies, establishing the modern explanatory network and monitoring system, supporting political policies for man-power management, and revitalizing travel agencies' role.
