Stability analysis of lathe during turning has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For the theoretical analysis, the cutting process is modeled based on the regenerative vibration in a single point tool, and the coefficients of the model are sought out cutting experiment. The boundaries of the stable cutting conditions resulted from theretical analysis have a good agreement with those from experiment.
