범죄피해자ㆍ증인 신변보호제도 강화방안 = A Study on Reinforcement of Crime Victims and Witness Protection System in Korea : Focus on Effective Protection of Crime Victims

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In 1999, the Korean Government enacted "the Law of Protection of Specific Crime Reporters, etc" to protect crime victims to regulate the police's safety measures, skipping of recording of personal information, assistant system, notice system of major changes regarding defendants, compensation system for crime victims and other systems to protect crime victims and to prevent the victims from retaliatory crimes and repeated suffering. However, such passive safety measures are insufficient to protect victims from criminals' retaliation so that the Public Prosecutor's Office is recently promoting introduction of programs that can give information on new place of residence as well as identity. And, the Ministry of Justice is promoting funding of the crime victims fund.
Therefore, the paper has examined not only purposes of protection of crime victims but also requirements to attain the purposes to suggest desirable policy directions that can effectively strengthen protection of the victims in Korea.
