다문화 사회를 대비한 특수체육 보조교사의 역할과 책임 = Roles and Responsibilities of Paraprofessionals for Multiculturalism in Adapted Physical Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현재 한국은 다문화 사회로 변모하고 있다. 이와 같이 사회가 변화함에 따라 교육현장에서 교사들의 역할도 발맞춰 변화해야 할 것이다. 다문화 사회를 대비하여 특수체육 현장에서 보조 교사(paraprofessional)의 새로운 역할과 책임에 대한 고찰은 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 다문화 사회에 따른 특수체육지도 현장에서 보조 교사의 새로운 책임과 역할 그리고 특수체육지도자들이 다문화 보조 교사들과 협업을 위한 유용한 기술들에 대해서 다루고 있다. 보조 교사들은 전통적인 업무 역할(지도 보조, 사정 보조, 행동 수정 보조)를 수행할 뿐만 아니라 특수체육지도자와 다문화 학생 그리고 부모님 사이에서 중간 매개자가 될 수 있도록 통역, 멘토, 옹호, 의사소통 역할 수행을 해야 한다. 또한 특수체육지도자는 다문화 보조 교사와 효과적인 협업을 위해서 협력적 상호작용 기술, 문화 간 의사소통 기술, 다양한 문화적 배경 지식 이해가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

South Korea is transforming into a multicultural society. Personnel roles in education are changing as the needs of society change. The need of seeking new roles and responsibilities of paraprofessionals is critical in adapted physical education (APE). This article addresses the new roles and responsibilities of multicultural paraprofessionals in a APE context, as well as, the strategies necessary for adapted physical educators to effectively collaborate with multicultural paraprofessionals. In summary, paraprofessionals are not only assigned to perform traditional roles and responsibilities (i.e., assistance in instruction, assessment, behavior management) but serve as translators, mentors, advocators, and communicators. Further, providing opportunities for collaborative interaction and learning intercultural communication skills and various cultural backgrounds would ensure effective collaboration between adapted physical educators and multicultural paraprofessionals.
