Since 2007, serious collapses of the bed logs used to cultivate shiitake mushrooms in Korea have been reported. An investigation of these shiitake mushroom farms revealed two Camptomyia spp. (C. corticalis and C. heterobia) as major pests. These gall midges feed on mycelium of the shiitake mushroom, thereby disturbing the formation of mushroom fruit bodies. Because they are not known pests of shiitake mushrooms, we provide taxonomic and biological descriptions of these two Camptomyia species. This report represents new records of C. corticalis (Loew) and C. heterobia Mamaev in Far East Asia.
