단대단 보안 웹 메일 시스템의 개발 = Development of an Secure Web Mail System Supporting End-to-End Security

국문 초록 (Abstract)

전자 메일은 완전히 대중화되었으며 가장 기본적인 인터넷 응용의 하나이다. 하지만 전자메일에 대한 보호 및 안전성의 보장은 기대에 미치고 있지 못하는 실정이다. 본 논문은 S/MIME 관련 국제 표준 규격을 준수하여 송신자와 수신자간의 단대단 통신 보안을 제공하며, IMAP을 지원하며, 메일들을 데이터베이스에 저장하고 관리하는 웹 메일의 개발에 대한 것이다. 보안 메일 관련 표준 규격들은 보안 메일의 포맷과 통신 프로토콜에 관련된 기본적인 사항들을 규정하고 있지만 보안 메일의 구현에 관련된 세부적인 규격을 규정하지는 않는다. 본 논문은 메일들을 데이터베이스에 저장하여 효과적으로 관리하기 위하여 DB-IMAP 브리지와 DB-SMTP 브리지라는 개념을 사용하였으며, S/MIME 규격과 IMAP 규격을 결합하는 단대단 보안 웹 메일의 설계를 제시하였다는 의미를 갖는다.

E-mail is very popular and basic services to the masses. But, since almost secure e-mail systems are not easy to use and not compatible with other secure e-mail systems, secure e-mails have not sufficiently come into wide use. This paper designs a secure, efficient and easy-to-use web mail system: It conforms to S/MIME, the international standard specification for secure e-mail systems, and it has a easy-to-use user interface via web browsers. Also, this paper proposes the concepts of DB-SMTP bridge and DB-IMAP bridge to store e-mails as database records and manage them efficiently. S/MIME defines the basic and formats and protocols for secure e-mail standards, but does not define details for implementations of secure email systems.
