공공도서관의 이용자 공간 운영 및 구성 체계에 관한 연구 = The Study on the Operations & the Organizational systems of User Space in the Public Library

In this knowledge and information society, libraries are important community facilities that are designed to respond to numerous information needs that change constantly. They are social devices that affect the cultivation and formation of information literacy of the members of a society. In particular, public libraries are the main players that enhance the lifelong education, cultural activities, and information use and reflect the needs of local communities and the situation of the modern times. The modern society is facing the morphological changes of human recorded knowledge and information that have been created in various ways. The changes in socio-cultural and technical conditions require a new paradigm for the spatial structure of knowledge and information facilities.
The interest of modern people in knowledge and the role of information are indispensable elements for defining the modern society, and we need appropriate design and management of the user space environment of knowledge and information facilities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the operations, organizational systems, and information access formats of modern public libraries that are providing contemporary knowledge and information in various ways so as to understand the roles of information services that are easily accessible by contemporary knowledge and information users and provide guidelines to the organization of user space. For this purpose, the theoretical concepts of the functions, roles, and user services of modern public libraries were established based on an analysis of 10 domestic public libraries. Furthermore, quantitative data were extracted from the drawings, websites, and bibliographic data of each of these 10 libraries. Based on these data, the names, organizational systems, and access systems of the user spaces were analyzed. The result is as follows. The user space of these 10 libraries needs more active response system in function of public library and service supporting. 1)The information space of these 10 libraries needs a spatial change that integrates the function of user space to respond to information needs of users at a suitable time and place usefully, 2)and needs to construct a free distribution of information and fair access system through the spatial realization of service that supports all ages. 3)The reading room sector among educational saces of these 10 libraries has to respond to social needs about information service through improvement methods of integrated service space like PL4, 4)and the culture space of these 10 libraries needs to intensify complex cultural space service that can respond to needs of local people and sociocultural programs in substance. 5)Also, the title part of user space needs to use unified name as possible for convenience of numerous users, and after that, development of guideline is needs
